Let’s face it: electronic shifting is bourgeois. It’s like buying a black BMW sedan—everyone who’s anyone has already done it, while falling prices and affordable financing have made it so any shmoe can roll up to the coffee shop with their flashy new toy in a vain attempt at impact.
Decking out a rig with pneumatic shifting, however—a mere blip on the late 90s DH scene—makes a statement. An sense of history. An appreciation of quirk. An imagination for re-invention. Not to mention that the bomber rear mech and single-ring set-up are absolutely perfect for ‘cross.

Klunking, the birth of what we now know as Mountain Biking; featuring Gary Fisher, just some guy that writes for Bicycling Magazine and works in a bike shop.
This is a couple years into the movement—check the motorcycle brake levers, CX brakes, and a few of the first purpose-built frames by Joe breeze. But the best part of this video is that it reveals how awful these things are at climbing.
