Thor struggling to hold the pace on real power climbs…
[UPDATE: As I’m typing this, seems like Tomeke can’t take the heat either]

He seems to prefer the steady Alpine climbs. It’s why I don’t think he’ll ever be a Sanremo winner—loses too many spots over the last punchy climbs.
Not that two Sanremo podiums is a weak showing, by any means.

i still stand by that the BMC kit is one of the top 3 best looking kit this year and last, maybe even #1…designing a good kit is not easy espcially with restraints of sponsors but it still amazes me how bad some kits are

Can’t say I’m totally in love with Gilbert’s Belgian kit—seems a little bottom-heavy and unfinished with all that red. Plus mismatched  BMC logos (top black, bottom white) feel like a split kit.

But two thumbs up for the fat and shameless rainbows on Cadel’s sleeves. Way too many kits have wimpy narrow stripes that don’t give former world champs their due.

It wasn’t because we were afraid, it was because we anticipating that was going to happen.

BMC’s Jim Ochowicz issuing a Clintonian explanation on how a looming sanction caused him to pulled two from competition earlier this month. Because no official charges have come, BMC has them racing again.

Nice to see Och’ take a little more scrutiny, though I think CN could have given him a better browbeating, especially over his “other information that I gathered from other people that I respect”. Still, it’s a start.

My job’s here to race my bike [sic], promote the sport that we all love; that I’ve sacrificed my whole life for and I just have no interest in dragging this sport through the mud, so I’m sorry, but I have no comment.
George Hincapie, who I’m beginning to think loves cycling less than I do. @BMCproteam’s entire response just kinda sucked.

Aftermath.
(Thought about putting up Phinney’s pre-race pic of his candy-gloss stars and stripes TT bike, but it would have been too painful.)

Check how brave (or stupid? But I pick brave) Cavendish is in the sprint, he spots the gap just ahead of the Sky rider and punts his way through. You can’t buy that kinda talent!

Nice find—and definitely a good example of the all-or-nothing Cavendish style.

But for me the crazy part is the six seconds of wind Bos eats getting to the front on the left side at 0:40. I’ll admit he caught a lot of the other favorites boxed up, but seeing and pulling off that long sprint shows a road savvy he didn’t quite have last year.

Also note the BMC train and spectators over on the right side—certainly a bit obstructive, but not quite “in the middle of the road”. You can bet it wouldn’t have stopped Cavendish from making a move.
