BostonTweet sent out a photo of Lucas Brunelle riding the frozen Charles River in the recent cold snap. It’s possible every now and then, and reminds me of geeking out over his vids a decade or so ago.
I have feelings about riding like this now—increased awareness and improved infrastructure have made urban riding much less like the never-ending first lap of a cross race against enormous steel dopers. If this ever was justifiable, it certainly isn’t now.
But what’s really striking is that when this video was filmed, the GoPro Hero was a 35mm still cam. While it’s rad that we’ve got wide-angle HD insanity of some unbelievable rides, it’s pretty impressive how well the footage from Brunelle’s DIY set-up has held up—especially considering the current state of most user-generated content.
